Our History

AG Bell PortraitThe national organization was founded in 1890 by Alexander Graham Bell. He believed that most children who have a hearing loss can develop the ability to listen and speak if their education begins early and they can make maximum use of their residual hearing. Today the A.G. Bell Association preserves Dr. Bell’s concept of the team approach through education, research, and advocacy programs. AG Bell supports the use of listening and spoken language. The A.G. Bell Association is a lifelong resource, support network and advocate for listening, learning, talking and living with hearing loss. With over a century of service in the form of publications, outreach, conventions, training, advocacy, scholarships and financial aid awards,
AG Bell supports its mission: Advocating Independence through Listening and Talking!
